Honoré-Mercier Hospital – Health Care Facility
The Centre Honoré Mercier was to be expanded by the addition of a four storey building between the Honoré-Mercier and Saint Charles pavilions. This new building was to house the technical support centre. The project value, including modifications was estimated at $153M.
The project was broken down into several different lots and various construction phases. Several general and trade contractors were involved in the demolition and resurfacing of the existing structure as well as the expansion of the building.
The main problems affecting the project were delays and loss of productivity encountered by the various general and trade contractors.
Revay and Associates was mandated by the Corporation d’hébergement du Québec (CHQ) to assist in the management of construction disputes and to give an opinion on the validity of the claims received.
Revay’s negotiations with the numerous contractors on the project allowed an equitable settlement of the claims, taking into account the responsibility of the parties as well as the factors giving rise to loss of productivity.
Regarding loss of productivity, several estimates based on the Leonard curves or the total cost method were submitted by contractors in order to justify their claims. Revay determined the validity of both the claims and the calculation of the estimates and submitted its recommendations to the owner.
