Engineering Complex Renovation
The McGill University Engineering Complex is located in downtown Montreal. The four pavilions comprising the complex were to be renovated, remaining operational during the process. The work was to be performed on a tight schedule covering 11 months, from January to December 1998.
Delays began to accumulate from the very start of the work. As the project progressed, the owner and the contractor negotiated and settled many claims.
The project was still ongoing in March 1999 although it was 95% complete. In May, the contractor’s contract was terminated.
At the time of the contract termination, the renovation was more than 98% complete and was scheduled to be completed in two months.
Another contractor was designated to finish the work and the entire renovation was completed only in May 2000 and at a much higher cost.
Revay and Associates was mandated by McGill University to determine if the work performed by the second contractor was included in the original contract.
