Yarmouth Regional Hospital

The Western Regional Health Board needed Construction Management services for the proposed addition and renovation to the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. The schedule for the work was tight and the budget was fixed.
Failure to achieve milestone target dates and budgets would impact on the hospital’s ability to meet healthcare needs.
The owner was constructing an addition to the existing Yarmouth Regional hospital followed by renovations to the existing facility. The new addition covered approximately 160,000 square feet with a constructed cost of approximately $33,250,000.
The renovated areas comprised approximately 60,000 square feet with a constructed cost of $5,820,000.
The hospital complex was consisted of five buildings, four of which were interconnected at various levels.
All the buildings are serviced by one central heating plant.
The new addition was a five-storey building with a rooftop penthouse. The structure is cast in place concrete and the building envelope is concrete block with brick veneer. The roof-top penthouse was enclosed with metal siding.
Several contractors submitted claims for delay and loss of productivity.
Revay and Associates limited was mandated to evaluate the claims of the various contractors and negotiate their settlement.
