Sandra Burnell, is a registered Architect with the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA). She received her Bachelor of Environmental Studies (BES), Pre-Professional Architecture from the University of Waterloo in 1982 followed by her Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) at the University of Waterloo, 1986.
Sandra brings over 36 years of varied construction related experience as a designer, owner and construction manager to her role as a Principal with Revay. During her tenure with Revay, she has applied this range of experience to focus extensively on the forensic analysis of troubled projects in the preparation or defence of claims, and successful provision of expert reports and testimony on construction projects valued from $10 to $250 million, with the claims ranging anywhere from hundreds of thousands to over $200 million. Most notably her expert reports are focused on standard of care, delay and contract termination.
Proficient in the area of risk management, Sandra also continues to assist a number of clients with her project management expertise. Immediately prior to joining Revay, Sandra worked for six years as a key member of the construction manager’s staff on the delivery of the $2.1 billion Terminal One at Lester B. Pearson International Airport. The previous nine years were spent working for the owner on various aspects of the $4.4 billion airport development program including the role of Senior Architect. Over the years she provided project planning, proposal development, scope definition, and budget and cost control services. Sandra is proficient in the use of various computer software including Microsoft Project and Primavera P6.
In addition to presenting at numerous webinars, conferences and the University of Toronto School of Architecture, and co-hosting an annual claims management course for the Ontario General Contractors Association, Sandra served as a Director and President of the Ontario Building Envelope Council, and now sits on the Toronto Construction Association’s Environmental Committee, the Ontario Water Works Association’s Construction Committee. She also sat on the Ryerson Study Steering Committee for the Construction and Design Alliance of Ontario (CDAO). She has also been awarded the Toronto Construction Association’s Best of the Best “Distinguished Volunteer” Award, published an article in the Construction Law Letter, and has her name published in Who’s Who Legal.
